TRES Retriever Report September 1, 2023

Fri, 09/01/2023 - 9:32am

Message from Dr. TRESler and Mr. Hiel:

Dear Retriever Families,

It has been a great first week at TRES! One of the highlights of the week was seeing TREaSure at our PBIS pep rallies! The pep rallies are a great way for us to begin to build school community and pride at the start of the year. During our celebrations, we also reviewed our TREaSure Traits of respect, responsibility, integrity, and care. We encourage you to talk with your child about the traits and how they are shown at school.

Student achievement begins with social and emotional well-being. Similar to past years, all of our students started the school year with lessons and learning experiences that create a positive learning environment, build relationships and classroom community, ensure equity in the classroom, and focus on our students’ social and emotional well-being. These lessons emphasize each individual’s contribution to the classroom as well as norms for respectful, trusting and safe interactions, and the meaning and value of equity and how it looks and feels in our classrooms and school community.

Today we visited 5th grade, and next week we will visit the other grade-level teams, to discuss the HCPSS Student Code of Conduct  and specific policies in developmentally appropriate child-friendly ways. The HCPSS Student Code of Conduct provides a framework to support behavioral goals and disciplinary policies. While students are expected to be aware of and abide by this code, we all play a part in ensuring our school is a safe place where students can learn. We look to partner with our families to support the social-emotional skill development of our students.  At TRES, we implement programs such as PBIS to help teach and reinforce school-appropriate behaviors and build community among our students and staff. We thank you in advance for your partnership to create a safe learning environment.

Warmly,
Dr. Tiffany TRESler, Principal TRES
Mr. Kory Hiel, Assistant Principal TRES

TRES Arrival and Dismissal Procedures and Times
Students can begin to enter the building at 8:30 a.m. and the late bell rings at 8:40 a.m. Students must remain in their cars with parents until a staff member is present on duty in the car loop. Beginning Tuesday, September 5th, if your child arrives after 8:40 a.m. you must park and sign them in at the front office.

Also beginning Tuesday, September 5th, students are dismissed at 3:10 p.m. We started dismissal a little early this week to allow extra time for us to ensure each student was going home the correct way.

We are pleased that the car loop has been running smoothly thanks to so many parents following our guidelines and procedures! Thank you for helping us!

As a reminder:

  • No left turns in or out of the car loop/parking lot during arrival and dismissal
  • Parents, stay in your cars while in the car loop
  • Students should be ready to exit/enter cars from the passenger side of the car onto the sidewalk
  • Pull your car all the way up to either the top of the loop or close to the car in front of you before your child exits/enters your car
  • For dismissal, have your child’s name written clearly, boldly, and legibly on the provided mirror tag

TRES is Hiring! Join our Team!
Our school still needs a Daily Building Substitute who works each day at TRES only. The daily rate for a substitute is determined by degree status, and teacher certification is not required for this position.   We also need two Lunch/Recess Monitors.

To learn more, please call TRES: 410-313-2560 or email Tiffany Tresler at tiffany_tresler@hcpss.org.

Student Meals and Payments
HCPSS now uses LINQ Connect, a secure, online portal that allows families to view breakfast and lunch menus, make online meal payments, monitor their child’s account, schedule automatic recurring payments, set up low balance alerts, submit a Free and Reduced Meals program application, and more. Details and information are available online.

Please Consider Coaching Girls on the Run (GOTR)
Unfortunately, last year's GOTR assistant coaches are not available to coach our school's program this year. Tarleen Weston, current Head Coach, needs volunteer support in order to offer the program this season.  Program details include:

  • Fall 2023 season runs 9/18-12/5
  • Season's practice schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:15-4:30 pm
  • Girls on the Run assistant coaches are trained volunteers (must complete Coach Training) who help lead a team of participants (grades 3-5) through a season of powerful and fun lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development (easy-to-follow curriculum provided by GOTR). You do not need to be a runner to coach. All coaches receive all the tools and support they need throughout the season.

If anyone is interested in learning more about the GOTR program, please contact Susan Michel (susan.michel@girlsontherun.org) or Carrie Heath (carrie.heath@girlsontherun.org). Thank you for your consideration.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

This is 100% volunteer led and a great opportunity to encourage our children to be active as well as set goals and meet them. Please sign up HERE.  **If you’re signing up before 9/15, please limit yourself to two time slots per child, to allow others the opportunity to volunteer. Thank you for your support!
